What is worship?

What does worship mean to you?

Today is a short post…but I wanted to let you know what worship means to me.  At least, a portion of what it means to me.  I am using an acrostic that spells W.O.R.S.H.I.P.

W- Willingly setting your heart and mind above and beyond yourself.

O- Opening your heart, to worship and revere the one who created you.

R- Realizing, without God you are nothing. Reverencing the holiness of who He is to you.

S- Singing about his love, His forgiveness and His faithfulness.

H- Hallowing his presence as He draws near to you.

I- Indescribable gift of grace He extends to us.

P- Purposeful passion. Pursuing His presence through worship.

It’s All About Him

If you think about it, nothing about worship is really about us. The irony is that when we are lost in his presence, His presence comes rushing in, overwhelming our hearts.  We cannot but help to become aware of ourselves in His presence.  In this place of love, brokenness surfaces and His presence brings wholeness.   Depression is lifted and is replaced with joy.

Rejection that once pushed you out is healed because acceptance in the Father’s arms draws you in. Your once bleeding heart has been transformed into a burning heart in his presence. What once was just a song has now become a sanctuary.

Scripture says that God inhabits the praise of his people. If He inhabits the praise of the outer courts then surely worship moves you into the inner courts, the place of sacred communion. Intimacy. The secret place with God. The place of pouring out your heart to him so he can then fill you with himself.

What if I told you He waits to hear your voice? What if I told you that He is such a gentleman that He never pushes or is intrusive but waits for the moment you begin to worship? You step towards heaven, He… steps towards you. He rushes into you to meet you in that moment. To love you, to heal you, to lift you up out of all the junk you have waded through. What if the key that unlocks the door to God’s heart is within your mouth, in a song, in a dance? You always have been and will be the desire of God’s heart.

All of heaven is listening! Won’t you sing?

Merry Christmas to all my readers. May God richly bless you today!

Leave me a comment below and tell me how you plan to worship today.

  1. I love these Michelle…especially ‘W’ – Willingly setting your heart and mind. Worship is far more than an emotional feeling; it is a true acknowledgment of Who He Is. Thanks for reminding us that He deserves our best.
